Shit on my hands |

I would like to say that my nearly six-month old daughter is such a brilliant day sleeper because second time around I am a relaxed, easygoing mother; because I’ve always aimed for her to be in her cot the moment she shows the signs of tiredness; because I swaddled the bejesus out of her from birth to 5 months; because I demand breast feed; because when she was a newborn I let her grizzle, even cry – but never scream – herself to sleep (I’d hang up the washing on the outside line or have a shower so I couldn’t hear her and so couldn’t go back in her room and meddle with her learning to self-settle); and because I’ve always provided her just the right amount of stimulation. I’d like to says it’s because of all this, but I’d be lying. Actually, it’s because she discovered her thumb.
